Online RJ 101 Workshop for Workplaces and Organizations
About the Workshop
This workshop is ideal for people who are new to RJ as well as those who have some experience, but would like a refresher/deeper dive.
Focusing on workplaces and organizations, this workshop presents frameworks and processes for improving communication and relationships, and creating and sustaining inclusive workplace environments where all voices are heard.
This workshop includes 20 hours of online engagement, and five hours of asynchronous learning.
Ultimately, participants will have the opportunity to envision ways of bringing RJ and RP into their communities/spaces/teams as part of a conscious effort to develop caring and supportive cultures and structures in workplaces and organizations.
Content of the Workshop
Participants will learn about and practice tools and skills of restorative leadership, which include giving and receiving feedback, creating cultures where accountability is supported, and shifting approaches to power, authority and discipline.
The workshop features an experiential learning approach, with lots of participation and practice. We begin with Restorative Practices (RP), through the circle process,. which encompasses developing shared values and community agreements, engaging in individual and collective self-reflection, and planning for action and/or change.
Recognizing that conflict is inevitable and can be productive, people will be invited to explore their relationship to conflict with the goal of developing not only effective skills, but the self-knowledge needed for navigating differences in approaches to conflict and communication. Skills for leaning into conflict are drawn from mediation, restorative justice and non-violent communication frameworks and strategies.
Finally, participants will be introduced to the techniques and processes for facilitation of restorative conversations between two people, and "holding space” for groups, teams and communities who have experienced conflict and harm. The workshop will present options for creating "restorative pathways" in workplaces/organizations that can work in relationship with, or as an alternative to Human Resources approaches.
